Itty Bitty Book 2 – Galatians, Chapter 5, June 11
Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Gal 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
We have been set free of the bondage of the master of sin, through the blood of Jesus Christ. We have been set free of the requirement to meet each and every dot of the Law, by the blood of Jesus Christ.
But we are NOT given liberty to continue in sin – the things of the law are still our standard of living……Jesus said so in his Sermon on the Mount. We are now judged by the heart issues behind the sins against the laws of God.
BUT – we have been given a new nature….that’s part of being set free from the bondage of sin and death – and the gift of eternal life through Christ our Saviour!
We’ve all heard, and possibliy sung these verses:
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
This is what we are to strive for, attain to – walking in the Spirit!
But these verses get ignored under the guise of liberty:
Gal 5:16 [This] I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
***This is our exhortation – BEFORE the fruit of the Spirit:
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
* IF…..IF……IF you are led of the Spirit, you are not under the law. ….and it’s traditional Biblical theology to say it also means, that ….
if you are not led of the Spirit YOU ARE UNDER THE LAW!
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like:
*Sounds a lot like:
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Paul finishes his talk about the works of the flesh this way:
Gal 5:21b of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
And John precedes the warning in his recitation of God’s revelation this way:
Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
It all boils down to this:
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We can’t do this on our own!!! Jesus paid the price for our sins, Jesus cut the chains that bound us to our sins and the sinful nature, GOD gave us a new nature, with liberty and set us free to glorify HIM in our lives.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
And that is my prayer for today – may you be blessed to walk in the Spirit.
