Wisdom and Praise
Psalm 15, 45, 75, 105, 135, and Proverb 15

In Today’s readings, we have the standard by which we should be judged – and we thank God for Jesus coming! There’s a wedding song that just shares the beauty of the King’s wedding, but we can remember that we are the Bride of Christ as well.  Another Psalm lays out that God is the judge. Again, I’m glad that when time comes for Jehovah God to judge me I am covered by the blood of Jesus that He shed for me so that I would not be judged against this standard. There’s a song I share in the video because its just so fun to sing.  We’ll end with some GoTo verses from Proverbs.

Let’s dive in!

  • Psalm 15  The Standard
    • Ps 15:1 Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
          Who may live on your holy mountain?
    • Ps 15:5 Whoever does these things
          will never be shaken.
    • Praise God that we are set free in Christ Jesus
      • 1 John 1:9-10 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
      • 1 John 2:1- 2 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

      I will judge fairly.
      When the earth and all its inhabitants shake,

Chris’s discussion on Day 14

Wisdom and Praise
Psalms 14, 44, 74, 104, 134 and Proverb 14

Today’s readings again compare the righteous and the wicked,  remembering what God has done in the past and He will do it again, the struggles of discipline and the destruction of a special place.  We have a whole psalm dedicated to the Creator God and His glory. I sing another Psalm.  Proverbs has some tidbits for us about our heart and character. I found quite a few new songs!

Let’s dive in!

  • Psalm 14 From David’s Prayer Journal – The wicked
    • Ps 14:1 The fool[a] says in his heart,
          “There is no God.”
      They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
          there is no one who does good.
    • Ps 14:2-3 The Lord looks down from heaven
          on all mankind
      to see if there are any who understand,
          any who seek God.
      All have turned away, all have become corrupt;
          there is no one who does good,
          not even one.
    • Ps 14:7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
          When the Lord restores his people,
          let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
    • Psalm 14 by Psalms Project
  • Psalm 44 Remembering What the Lord has done
    • Ps 44:1  God, we have heard with our ears—
      our ancestors have told us—
      the work You accomplished in their days,
      in days long ago:
    • Ps 44:4 You are my King, my God,
      who ordains[a] victories for Jacob.
    • Ps 44:9-14 Discipline or what?
    • Ps 44:15 – 16 because of persecution
      • My disgrace is before me all day long,
        and shame has covered my face,
        16 because of the voice of the scorner and reviler,
        because of the enemy and avenger.
      • Matt 5:10
        • Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
              for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
      • Matt 5:11-12
        • “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
      • Persecution for beliefs feels like we are ignored by our God.  In fact, it is allowed, not caused, and this is for our good.
        • James 1: Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.
    • Ps 44:23-26 Cry out to God for help in times of trouble!
      • Rise up! Help us!
        Redeem us because of Your faithful love.
    • Songs of Psalm 44
  • Psalm 74 – Crying out because of destruction
      • Ps 74:1 Out cry as His people
          • Why have You rejected us forever, God?
            Why does Your anger burn
            against the sheep of Your pasture?
      • Ps 74:3-11 Describing the Destruction
          • It was like men in a thicket of trees,
            wielding axes,
            then smashing all the carvings
            with hatchets and picks.
            They set Your sanctuary on fire;
            they utterly[c] desecrated
            the dwelling place of Your name.
      • Ps 74:12-17 Reminder the God of Creation
          • God my King is from ancient times,
            performing saving acts on the earth.
            13 You divided the sea with Your strength;
            You smashed the heads of the sea monsters in the waters;
      • Ps 74:18 – 23 Remember Your People
          • Rise up, God, defend Your cause!
            Remember the insults
            that fools bring against You all day long.
            23 Do not forget the clamor of Your adversaries,
            the tumult of Your opponents that goes up constantly.
      • Songs of Psalm 74
  • Psalm 104 Glory to God!
      • Ps 104:1- 4
          • My soul, praise Yahweh!
            Lord my God, You are very great;
            You are clothed with majesty and splendor.
            He wraps Himself in light as if it were a robe,
            spreading out the sky like a canopy,
            laying the beams of His palace
            on the waters above,
            making the clouds His chariot,
            walking on the wings of the wind,
            and making the winds His messengers,[a]
            flames of fire His servants.
        • Ps 104:5-26 God Created all things
            • :5 He established the earth on its foundations;
              it will never be shaken.
            • :10 He causes the springs to gush into the valleys;
              they flow between the mountains.
            • :16 The trees of the Lord flourish,[c]
              the cedars of Lebanon that He planted.
              17 There the birds make their nests;
              the stork makes its home in the pine trees.
            • :24 How countless are Your works, Lord!
              In wisdom You have made them all;
              the earth is full of Your creatures.[f]
        • Ps 104:27 – 30 The Relationship with God
            • :29-30 When You hide Your face,
              they are terrified;
              when You take away their breath,
              they die and return to the dust.
              30 When You send Your breath,[g]
              they are created,
              and You renew the face of the earth.
        • Ps 104:31 – 35 Song of Praise
            • :31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
              may the Lord rejoice in His works.
            • :33 – 34 I will sing to the Lord all my life;
              I will sing praise to my God while I live.
              34 May my meditation be pleasing to Him;
              I will rejoice in the Lord.

This morning, I delayed, if not excused, the video I’ve been doing with the Psalms and Proverb a day because I was greatly grieved in my stomach.

It felt like sick, but my head felt heavy, my shoulders felt burdened, my solar plexus felt like many burning knives were dancing there.  My every muscle was tight, and trying to relax them was so far from my thinking because I wasn’t even sure I could survive the “knives”.

There are some situations in my life that are greatly volatile, and chaotic that affect my decisions.  There are people that I have to take into account, and relationships that I have to navigate.  There are wounds that are so deep that they are hard to even vocalize.

Then there are memories, tangible places that pull emotions out of my heart and psyche only to force me to look at them again whether I want to or not.  Some memories are good, but most are overshadowed by deep dark grey with streaks and streams of bitter tears that flow through it but don’t thin it’s thickness.

My mental health does affect my physical health and vice versa.

I am planning a trip in April. There is one specific place that I will be attending, the Psychiatric Service Dog Partners 2023 Convention in Rock Hill, SC.

Another place I’d like to go is my brother’s house in Raleigh, NC.

Ohio is always on my hope and prayer list.

But could all of this be why my body is in rebellion today?

Well, I decided to put some things into practice that I’ve been learning.

Breathe – let go of the tension

Get my internal self more open to possibilities, don’t hold on so tightly to MY plans

Cry out to God for being missing in this (every see how much an object is covered when you hold on tight compared to when you open your hand?) – I couldn’t see past the trip I was clinging t6o.

I placed my worry about the truck on the altar.

I placed my worry about the hotels on the altar.

I placed my worry about managing the suitcases on the altar.

I placed my worry about my anxiety and potential freak outs on the altar.

I placed me on the altar.

This took hours – honestly.

My stomach started to release and open up.  The pain started to subside.  My brain started being clearer, and I could see that God had not left me.  I had focused so much on this trip and all that is wrapped up in it that I lost sight of God.

I’m flying.  Still a few things to work out, but that settles many things.  Yes, Gabby is able to fly AND I still have plenty of time to get all of the paperwork in order before the convention.

So, I start to be almost giddy that God was waiting right there for me to open my hand and look up.  But it gets better!

The Psalms and Proverb for today!

  • Psalm 13
    • Lord, how long will You forget me?Forever?
      How long will You hide Your face from me?
      How long will I store up anxious concerns[a] within me,
      agony in my mind every day?
      How long will my enemy dominate me?
    • Consider me and answer, Lord my God.
      Restore brightness to my eyes;
      otherwise, I will sleep in death.
      My enemy will say, “I have triumphed over him,”
      and my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.
    • But I have trusted in Your faithful love;
      my heart will rejoice in Your deliverance.
      I will sing to the Lord
      because He has treated me generously.

this is almost exactly what happened! I cried out(in my blindness), I prayed for intervention then I was declaring God’s faithful love!

There’s more!

  • Psalm 43
    • Vindicate me, God, and defend my cause
      against an ungodly nation;
      rescue me from the deceitful and unjust man.
      For You are the God of my refuge.
      Why have You rejected me?
      Why must I go about in sorrow
      because of the enemy’s oppression?
    • Send Your light and Your truth; let them lead me.
      Let them bring me to Your holy mountain,
      to Your dwelling place.
      Then I will come to the altar of God,
      to God, my greatest joy.
      I will praise You with the lyre,
      God, my God.
    • Why am I so depressed?
      Why this turmoil within me?
      Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him,
      my Savior and my God.

Again, before I even looked at the Psalms for today, God knew that what HE had planned for me would line up and the deliverance would be confirmed in HIS word!

Eph 2:10 NKJV For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

I wrote about Ephesians 2 in Itty Bitty Bible Study – so it just kind of jumps out at me!

Even more – another Psalm!

  • Psalm 73
    • 2-3 But as for me, my feet almost slipped;
      my steps nearly went astray.
      For I envied the arrogant;
      I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
    • 13 Did I purify my heart
      and wash my hands in innocence for nothing?
    • I exposed my authentic self in my despair.
    • 23 – 24 Yet I am always with You;
      You hold my right hand.
      24 You guide me with Your counsel,
      and afterward You will take me up in glory.[h]
    • 25-26 KJV Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none on earth that I desire beside thee.  My flesh and my heart faileth: But God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
    • 25 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.

Then came

Psalm 103: 8-9 The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger and rich in faithful love.
He will not always accuse us
or be angry forever.
10 He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve
or repaid us according to our offenses.

And that is preceded by Psalm 103:1-5 KJV

103 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

One more Psalm to go for today – well? Yes, God did show up again!

Psalm 133:1-3 A beautiful Psalm about being in the presence of God.

How good and pleasant it is
when brothers live together in harmony!
2 It is like fine oil on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down Aaron’s beard
onto his robes.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon[a]
falling on the mountains of Zion.
For there the Lord has appointed the blessing—
life forevermore.

I had been holding onto something so hard that my heart was hardening to the Lord’s voice, and I wasn’t even seeing that I wasn’t entering into the joy of the Lord!
Rememeber I said that my eyes had gone dark with despair?
Psalm 13:3 – restore the brightness to my eyes with Proverb 13:9 The light of the righteous shines brightly.

Proverb 13:12 KJV is very well known to me –

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire cometh it is a tree of life.

A promise, or a desire that takes more time than I want it to makes my heart sick. Of course, there’s the lesson of patience, but I want that desire. I wanted that Eastern trip. I wanted it since I got back from my western trip.
I had to let go of the big idea when I had to sell(let go) my RV trailer.
Today, I had to let go of the middle idea when I had to let go of the driving idea.
There is a sad in my heart that I’m not driving to Ohio. I really want to see my kids and grandkids. But there is a peace in letting God guide my path.
Proverb 13:14 A wise man’s instruction is a fountain of life, turning people away from the snares of death.
and
Proverb 13:20 The one that walks with the wise will become wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
By spending time every day in the Psalms and Proverbs, I am listening to a wise man’s instruction, and I am walking with the wise.

Chris’s video thoughts on Day 11 readings

Psalms 11, 41, 71, 101, 131 and Proverb 11

Today’s readings  have some Bible Psychology to share.

Today we read about God being our refuge and strength(11 & 71), a prayer for the sick(41) and we can learn about the attitude when we go through trials of all sorts. Psalm 101 gives us an idea that setting boundaries was a thing even in David’s day. Psalm 131 talks about being still.

Proverbs gives us many nugget gifts on the way we can live for better living.

  • Psalm 11 – God is our Refuge and Strength
    • Ps 11:1 I have taken refuge in the Lord.
      How can you say to me,
      “Escape to the mountain like a bird![a]

      • Ps 56:3 Go To When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.
      • Ps 64:10 ties in with righteous – The righteous one rejoices in the LORD and takes refuge in Him; all those who are upright in heart will offer praise.
      • Ps 141:8 (KJV) But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.
    • God is our refuge by Maranatha Christian Church – another Psalm but beautiful.
    • Ps 11:3 The foundations
      • Ps 127:1 A Solomonic song of ascents. Unless the LORD builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; unless the LORD watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain.
      • Matthew 7:24-27 Build your house on the Rock
    • Ps 11:4-7 OUR GOD!
      • Ps 11:7 Go To Verse
        • For the Lord is righteous; He loves righteous deeds.
          The upright will see His face.
    • Songs I found
  • Psalm 41 – David’s Prayer Journal, Prayer for the sick
    • Ps41:1-2 (HCBS) Happy is one who cares for the poor;
      the Lord will save him in a day of adversity.
      The Lord will keep him and preserve him;
      he will be blessed in the land.
    • Ps 41:1-2 (NIV)Blessed are those who have regard for the weak;
          the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.
      The Lord protects and preserves them—
          they are counted among the blessed in the land—
          he does not give them over to the desire of their foes.
    • Ps 41:3-4 Sickbed=Sin?
      • 3 The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed; You will heal him on the bed where he lies. 4 I said, “Lord, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.”
      • James 5:14-15  14 Is any sick among you? let  him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; AND if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
      • sickness = punishments = sin is not always the case, but one should check their hearts when sickness comes, or any trial to see if this is discipline, teaching or an attack of our enemy, and progress accordingly.
    • Ps 41:9 Deep Betrayal
      • Even my friend[a] in whom I trusted,
        one who ate my bread,
        has raised his heel against me.

    • Ps 71:20 & 21 (NIV)
      • Though you have made me see troubles,
            many and bitter,
            you will restore my life again;
        from the depths of the earth
            you will again bring me up.
      • You will increase my honor
            and comfort me once more.
    • Ps 71:22-24 Praising God – Attitude of Praise
      • Therefore, I will praise You with a harp
        for Your faithfulness, my God;
        I will sing to You with a lyre,
        Holy One of Israel.
        23 My lips will shout for joy
        when I sing praise to You
        because You have redeemed me.
        24 Therefore, my tongue will proclaim
        Your righteousness all day long,
        for those who seek my harm

  • Ps 131 short and sweet – self comforting

M. Christine Wildman“The Lord does not give me rules, but He makes His standard very clear.
If my relationship to Him is that of love, I will do what He says without hesitation.
If I hesitate, it is because I love someone I have placed in competition with Him, namely, myself.” –

Psalms 10, 40, 70, 100, 130, and Proverb 10

Today’s readings have a lot to sing about! But first, there is a Psalm where the author is comparing themselves with other, and feeling as if God is absent.

We finish with one of Solomon’s Proverbs that is written in a poetic style of this vs that, either/or, and sometimes the second part confirms the first.  These are easy to pick out and to memorize as little nuggets of truth to hold onto.

  • Psalms 10 Comparison, why do the wicked succeed?
    • Ps 10:1-2 Lord,[a][b] why do You stand so far away?
      Why do You hide in times of trouble?
      In arrogance the wicked relentlessly pursue the afflicted;
      let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.
    • Ps 10:3-11 Comparisons of righteous and evil
      • Ps 10:3 For the wicked one boasts about his own cravings;
        the one who is greedy curses[c] and despises the Lord.
      • Ps 10:11 He says to himself, “God has forgotten;
        He hides His face and will never see.”
    • Ps 10:12-15 Lord, defend your honor
      • Ps 10:12 Rise up, Lord God! Lift up Your hand.
        Do not forget the afflicted.
      • Ps 10:14 The helpless entrusts himself to You;
        You are a helper of the fatherless.
    • Ps 10:16- 19 Glorify The Lord
      • The Lord is King forever and ever;
        the nations will perish from His land.
  • Psalm 40 – Sing Sing Sing
    • Ps 40:2-3 (KJV)

      He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

      And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.

      • Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
      • Psalm 130:3-4 (NIV) If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
            Lord, who could stand?
        But with you there is forgiveness,
            so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

        “The Lord is great!”
        17 I am afflicted and needy;
        the Lord thinks of me.
        You are my helper and my deliverer;
