Midnight Musings – I do not understand 3/25/18

I do not Understand

By M. Christine Wildman, copyright 2018 – all rights reserved without permission.

I do not understand
How God can give me a plan
And allow me to withstand
Pain uncontrollable

I do not understand
How God can send a call
Add I tried to give my all
In pain uncontrollable

How can I be
The type of she
To honor he
With pain uncontrollable?

I do not understand
Though I confess my sin
And the spirit is within
Yet pain uncontrollable

I do not understand
How to walk by faith
And yet not disgrace
By pain uncontrollable

I want to speak the words
I want to write the verse
His glory be immersed
But pain uncontrollable

I do not understand
How I am in his plan
When I can barely stand
For pain uncontrollable

I do not understand
Why God does not heal
My fruit the devil steals
Because of pain uncontrollable

How do I Rise
Without a lie
Knowing by his stripes
I am healed?

Yet in my pain
I feel such a shame
There is no gain
In pain uncontrollable

I do not understand
Yet David did decree
That though he could not see
God’s hand in Victory

David still declared
And almost he did dare
God’s promises that were shared
To be undeniable

I do not understand
God’s purpose or his plan
Please Lord hold my hand
Through pain inconceivable

I don’t like pills
I don’t like drugs
My Saviour bought
Healing on the cross

So why is there pain
That hinders God’s plan
For me to be more
Then pain undeniable

I don’t have an answer
I don’t have a clue
But I know there are blessings
I have just from you

It isn’t the pain
But causes me grief
It’s the job that you asked me
To do for your sheep

I know you are mighty
You are the all knowing
Each name that you’ve given
Your character is showing

I know you are able
I know you are here
But the difficulty comes
With guidance unclear

I do not understand
Why you called me to write
Then allowed me the trial
Of pain uncontrollable

I do not understand
I do not comprehend
But I know My Savior Lives
On that I can depend

And like the three young children
Said to the king of old
You’re able to deliver
But if not, I will hold

You are the Great Vine dresser
You are the giving King
My gifts are in your service
This pain, disrupting

Speak to me dear father
Guide me Holy Spirit
Leave me dear Lord Jesus
All to you to give it

You give me plans to follow
Then add a unique twist
Then double down with sickness
And pain does always exist

I know my pain is nothing
Compared to what you bore
But Lord your pain if ended
When the Temple curtain was torn

I’m sorry Lord for Grumbling
I am sorry that I whine
I want to serve you Faithfully
Until the end of time

But I do not understand
How this can be your plans
No matter how I stand
Pain all encompassing

I spoke to the devil
In Jesus name
I said Stand Down
I now see your game!

I Now understand
The enemy’s plans
To have me lay down
To say that I can’t

I said devil Stand Down
Release me my peace
Or staying awake
I’ll Proclaim in speech

Jesus is Lord
And I will not deny
His love and His glory
So give up, or I’ll try

With the gift of pain
I’ll stay up and write
And declare his name
In darkness, His light

I drew near to Jesus
I humble myself
I begged him for help
He poured out his wealth

The treasures of Heaven
Of Peace So Sublime
Love, Grace and mercy
From him, these are mine

The devil stood down
The pain did subside
While praying for you
My Lord sleep did provide

Oh sweet Jesus, my Lord
Into your name I hide
And you never leave me
You are right by my side

My gethsemane moment
My Cries in the night
Into my darkness
You shown your bright light!

Spirits engrave
On my heart from this night
The victory of Christ
Of my soul’s true Delight

For I lay down my head
At my Shepherds pierced feet
And the sleep that he gave me
Was so pure and so sweet

Now I understand
A little? And in part?
The point of the pain
As training my heart

I was being a victim
I was suffering by hours
Until the Lord showed me
He is giving me power!

I am more than a warrior
I am more than a voice
I am a Victor in Jesus
If I just make the choice

To remember what happened
On a cross long ago
How is death set free captives
How his life frees us so

Death your Concord
Pain you must cease
The work of the Kingdom
It’s what brings relief

We do have an enemy
Who roars at us so
But abiding in Jesus
Puts me in the know

Now I do understand
A part of God’s plan
Peace my story
In pain I can stand

The name of Jesus
A strong tower it is
The righteous run to him
He declares I am his

By standing on ground
That’s already been won
I lay down in Green Pastures
As he sings me his song

“I love you dear Christi,
And I always will stay
Close by you forever
And here when you pray”

If knowing my Jesus
Comes out of my pain
And bring on the Storm
I shall not be the same!

King of Glory – Third Day

Scripture

John 19:19-22 King James Version (KJV)
19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews.

20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

Luke 23:38

Devotion
King of the Jews….and on Palm Sunday – it seemed as though he was! Riding into town on a donkey, as a victorious King.

Just a few days later, and the crowd has turned against him.

Sounds like a news story from our time!

  • One day, thrilled the police are protecting us, then turn on them as the media spreads stories of varying degrees of truth.
  • One Day, believing that we should live by Martin Luther King, Jr.’s comment that we do not want to be judged by the color of our skin, and then, the violent aspects of Black Lives matter occur, because they want to be treated differently because of the color of their skin.
  • One Day, we are screaming about wanting police to do their jobs to protect our children from people/children with guns, and then next minute screaming that we want everyone to have no guns.

This isn’t a political post.
Yet, if you see anything on the news, or on facebook, or any other sort of newsy sort of media, one day everyone is saying YAY to something, and it can change in 24 hours…because the media tells us what to think. I don’t want to be told what to think!

This is what happened the last week of Jesus’ life.
Why did they turn on him?
It was politically incorrect to believe in him…to point out the illegality of his trial and judgement…to call into question the choices of the political and religious elite.

Peter denied him, to save his own skin!
Other’s ran away.
Even Pontius Pilate knew it was wrong, though he bent to the political correctness of the day! a Quote from the wikipedia page says:

“In all four gospel accounts, Pilate lobbies for Jesus to be spared his eventual fate of execution, and acquiesces only when the crowd refuses to relent. He thus seeks to avoid personal responsibility for the death of Jesus.”

Because of the throngs of people…and the inevitable cry of the Jews:”we have no king but Ceasar…” John 19:15…Pilate had to keep the peace.

I think his writing on the sign over Jesus’ head was his own attempt to state that he was guiltless in this.

Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews.

Another great thing was that it was written in Latin, Hebrew and Greek – all of the major languages of the day.
On THAT day – there were Jews from all over – Passover in Jerusalem…and sellers that wanted to make money on the Jews that were attending Passover. PILATE DECLARED JESUS’ TITLE TO ALL OF THE WORLD!

Did he believe? No, I don’t think so. Yet, he was an instrument in God’s hand!

In researching this sign in order to paint it for this cross, I sought out several resources.
Wikipedea has a great basic explanation of the Sign over Jesus on the Cross.

I also found this image:

Which comes from a blog by Mark Lambert, De Omnibus Dibutandum Est.

I cannot say anymore than this man has said – and the break out of the sign, and the implications and the meanings are nothing more than intensely amazing and worshipful.

I humbly suggest that you read this blog as well!
Another image from Mr Lambert’s blog, just to whet your appetite:

Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Jesus is the King of the Jews, and the gentiles!
Jesus is worthy of being Lord of All!
God used Pontius Pilate to declare that, as dear sweet Jesus gave His life for the sins of all mankind!

Jesus asks : Whom do you say that I am?
I want to say with Peter – You are the Christ – the Son of the Living God!
Matthew 16:15-16, Mark 8:28-29, Luke 19:20-21, John 6:68-69

I ask you, Whom do YOU say that HE is?

What is LENT? (a link to all of the LENT devotions)
Wikipedia has a very complete explanation for many of the Christian denominations that observe LENT.
Short and simple, it’s making oneself prepared through humility to celebrate the resurrection of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is the Christian equivalent to Passover for the Jews.

2018 Lent day 31 – court affairs with the Sanhedrin

Lent Devotions

Lent Day 31
Court of Sanhedrin

Music

Take my life – Chris Tomlin

Scripture
There is a lot of scripture here – and, I understand that. Please read the story!

Luke 22:66-71 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin
66 When daylight came, the elders[a] of the people, both the chief priests and the scribes, convened and brought Him before their Sanhedrin. 67 They said, “If You are the Messiah, tell us.”

But He said to them, “If I do tell you, you will not believe. 68 And if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the Power of God.”

70 They all asked, “Are You, then, the Son of God?”

And He said to them, “You say that I am.”

71 “Why do we need any more testimony,” they said, “since we’ve heard it ourselves from His mouth?”

Mark 14:53-65 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin
53 They led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes convened. 54 Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the high priest’s courtyard. He was sitting with the temple police,[a] warming himself by the fire.[b]

55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but they could find none. 56 For many were giving false testimony against Him, but the testimonies did not agree. 57 Some stood up and were giving false testimony against Him, stating, 58 “We heard Him say, ‘I will demolish this sanctuary made by human hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.’” 59 Yet their testimony did not agree even on this.

60 Then the high priest stood up before them all and questioned Jesus, “Don’t You have an answer to what these men are testifying against You?” 61 But He kept silent and did not answer anything. Again the high priest questioned Him, “Are You the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”

62 “I am,” said Jesus, “and all of you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

63 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “Why do we still need witnesses? 64 You have heard the blasphemy! What is your decision?”

And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death. 65 Then some began to spit on Him, to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, saying, “Prophesy!” The temple police also took Him and slapped Him.

Matthew 26:57-68 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin
57 Those who had arrested Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had convened. 58 Meanwhile, Peter was following Him at a distance right to the high priest’s courtyard. He went in and was sitting with the temple police to see the outcome.

59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus so they could put Him to death. 60 But they could not find any, even though many false witnesses came forward. Finally, two who came forward 61 stated, “This man said, ‘I can demolish God’s sanctuary and rebuild it in three days.’”

62 The high priest then stood up and said to Him, “Don’t You have an answer to what these men are testifying against You?” 63 But Jesus kept silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “By the living God I place You under oath: tell us if You are the Messiah, the Son of God!”

64 “You have said it,” Jesus told him. “But I tell you, in the future you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

65 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Look, now you’ve heard the blasphemy! 66 What is your decision?”

They answered, “He deserves death!” 67 Then they spit in His face and beat Him; others slapped Him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah! Who hit You?”

Devotion

On Day Thirty, I talked about Jesus being mocked and smitten.
Still, he was silent, until he proclaimed Who he was.

There is a passage in Matthew, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God”

This is something that the Jews revered as a had to answer type of thing.
Once they forced him to say Who he was, they condemned him.

They could not find two witnesses to agree to condemn him!!!
Until two came up and twisted his words!

Jesus was convicted for being the Son of God. Period.

And then, the beating…and the taunting…the out right bullying.

And then, Peter denies him.

What a horrible time – unfathomable.

And yet, I wonder…do I judge Christ?

Do I say that He is the Son of God, and then not give Him the preeminence to which that position requires?
Do I demand that He prove himself to me, with fleece and miracle, rather than believe because HE IS?
Do I demand that He speak, when He has already spoken in volumes?
Yes.

My sins condemned him.
If I continue in sin, I trample his sacrifice underfoot.

Hebrews 10:26-31 King James Version (KJV)
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

The above with the following passage cause me to work out my own salvation with fear and trembling:

Hebrews 6:4-8 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
4 For it is impossible to renew to repentance those who were once enlightened, who tasted the heavenly gift, became companions with the Holy Spirit,
5 tasted God’s good word and the powers of the coming age,
6 and who have fallen away, because, to their own harm, they are recrucifying the Son of God and holding Him up to contempt.
7 For ground that has drunk the rain that has often fallen on it and that produces vegetation useful to those it is cultivated for receives a blessing from God.
8 But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and about to be cursed, and will be burned at the end.

I cannot judge the judges that judged Jesus – for they were blinded by their love of the Law and their inability to accept the grace that God’s love provides.
I have been a little levitican, and given myself rules to follow – rather than embrace God’s grace.
I have been a little rebel, and rebelled at the need to seek God’s face, and just believe, rather than SEE for myself.
I have been a sinner, that has chosen to sin, when I knew that it was not what God’s best was for me.
I have need of a savior! and I will always need a savior! And I thank God that I always have a savior!

1 John 1:5-10 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
Fellowship with God
5 Now this is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him.
6 If we say, “We have fellowship with Him,” yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing[a] the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say, “We don’t have any sin,” we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

I can see myself in the Sanhedrin.
I wish I didn’t see myself in those that taunted Him…though I know that I question him, and his workings in my life.
I wish I couldn’t see myself in those that whipped him – but it’s by those stripes that I am healed…

Isaiah 53:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed.

I am seeing myself in the Holy Week story so much, and it’s not in ways that I would like.
I am no different than Peter, who denied Christ.
I am no different than Judas, who betrayed Christ.
I am no different than the Sanhedrin, who condemned Christ, because they wanted to keep their religion pure.

And yet, Peter obtained forgiveness – and shows me how to fall at the feet of Jesus and be blessed by HIS Amazing Grace! I am so grateful that God continues to work with me! I’m so grateful that God is NOT finished with ME!

Fifth Sunday in Lent – It Is Finished – Guest Post

Lent Devotions

Lent Week Four started March 5,
and Week five started March 11. I’m so sorry for the delay – thank you for your patience with me as we prepare to move!

Please welcome our Guest Post for Fifth Sunday in Lent  – from Fresh Grace for Today author Susan Parish
I read her blog on It Is Finished, and it is everything that I would want to say, and I’m afraid I would plagiarize her, therefore, I asked to share it with you! She graciously agreed!

~~~~~~~Guest Post~~~~~~~
It is Finished
He said, “It is finished!” And bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.
Who would have thought the words, ‘It is finished’ would be so powerful?
We’ve actually heard them often.
He said, “It is finished!” And bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.
Who would have thought the words, ‘It is finished’ would be so powerful?
We’ve actually heard them often.
It is finished! My room’s clean. Can I play my game now?
It is finished! My homework’s done! May I have my phone back now?
It is finished! My dinner’s gone! Can I have dessert?
It is finished! My assignment’s complete. Maybe now I can get a good night’s sleep.
It is finished! My project is ready. And just in the nick of time.
It is finished! The house is finally clean! Whew!
It is finished! The children are out the door! And on time for a change.
But, when Jesus spoke the words,’It is finished!’ they ‘were’ the most powerful words ever!
What exactly was finished?
Jesus life?
His ministry on earth?
The mocking and ridicule?
The frustration?
The torment?
The lack of people’s understanding?
It was all these things and so much more!
Separation from God was finished!
Our failures were finished!
And thanks to the blood of Jesus, sin . . . sin was finished!
If you’ve accepted Jesus as your savior, your sin is finished! God sees the righteousness of Jesus when He looks at you not your sin. This can be hard for our human mind to grasp, but, thankfully, it doesn’t take away from the truth of it. 💗
Sin brings so much heartache with it, doesn’t it?
Are you struggling with guilt? It is finished!
Are you struggling with shame? It is finished!
Do you fight with unworthiness? It is finished!
Do you feel alone? It is finished!
Do you struggle with heartache, grief, and anxiety? It is finished!
Do you wrestle with depression? It is finished!
Are you battling an addiction? It is finished!
Do you fight with envy, jealousy and comparing yourself with others? It is finished!
Do you feel unloved? It is finished!
Although, Jesus’ death doesn’t guarantee a life free from guilt, heartache, grief and sadness, it does make a way to get through the difficult times.💗
It’s not my intention to lead you astray by making you believe the way you feel will automatically disappear. Our walk with Jesus is an ongoing process. Sometimes things just take time.
However, I do pray from now on each time you hear the words, ‘It is finished!’ you will remember Jesus died for all of it; guilt, shame, unworthiness, sadness, depression, addictions, loneliness, feeling unloved, all of it!
Also, when (not if) the feelings come against you, you will address each one head on by speaking out loud,”Unworthiness! Because of Jesus, you are finished!!” “Depression! Because of Jesus, you are finished!!” “Feeling unloved! Because of Jesus, you are finished!!”💗
Sin, death and the powers of the world were defeated!
Once for all.
Once is the keyword here. Jesus didn’t have to die over and over and over.
He died once and once was enough.💗
Jesus sincerely loves you just the way you are. We can cast our burdens onto him. He overcame the world just for YOU.
If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Savior, you can right now. This very moment in the comfort of your home, in your car, at work, out hiking or jogging, grocery shopping. Anywhere! It’s not a tricky thing.
You don’t have to have someone praying with you. It’s between you and God.
Right now, you can stop what you are doing and acknowledge you believe Jesus is the son of God, He died on the cross and shed His blood for you and your sin and rose again. Then ask Him to be the Lord of your life.
It’s such a wonderful freeing experience.💗
If you prefer to have someone pray with you, absolutely we are here for you. It’s our heart’s desire to pray with you. I just don’t want your prayer of salvation to be hindered because you think someone HAS to pray with you.
After saying the prayer, please let us know, so we can continue to pray for you. We would love that! 💗
Also, call someone and tell them. . . maybe a family member or friend who has been praying for you? We need each other in our walk with Christ.
He said, “It is finished!” And bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.
Below is a great song to worship Jesus. Like it says, ‘let’s leave the grave behind us.’ It is finished!
With much love,
Susan💗
Above All – Michael W Smith
Scripture
Luke 22:63-65 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
Jesus Mocked and Beaten
63 The men who were holding Jesus started mocking and beating Him. 64 After blindfolding Him, they kept[a] asking, “Prophesy! Who hit You?” 65 And they were saying many other blasphemous things against Him.
Matthew 26:66-68 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
66 What is your decision?”
They answered, “He deserves death!” 67 Then they spit in His face and beat Him; others slapped Him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah! Who hit You?”
Mark 14:65 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
65 Then some began to spit on Him, to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, saying, “Prophesy!” The temple police also took Him and slapped Him.
Devotion
Psalm 22
There is so much in Psalm 22 that refers back to Christ’s trial and crucifixion.
We’ve looked at the first words – Why hast thou forsaken me.
Psalm 22:6-7
6 But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by men and despised by people.
7 Everyone who sees me mocks me;
they sneer and shake their heads:
Isaiah 50:6
Jesus taught in the sermon on the Mount:
Matthew 5:11-12 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
11 “You are blessed when they insult and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of Me. 12 Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
He taught this BEFORE this day! On THIS DAY, he exemplified this teaching.
This isn’t the only time during this day that he is smitten – he’s going to be whipped, with enough strikes that most died from the whipping. He’s going to collapse under the weight of the cross. Spit upon. Rocks thrown.
This is just days after being welcomed into the city with palm branches, riding on a donkey.
How did his reputation fall so far in such a short time? It wasn’t his repuatation…it was a plot by those that wanted to destroy him. And, the hoards went along. They yelled whatever the leaders wanted them to yell!
Reading through this so slowly has been very disturbing to me…humbling and distressful.
I’m seeing more clearly just how Jesus loved me, loved me enough to be ridiculed in ways that we can only imagine.
Jesus loved me enough to go through pain that makes the chronic pain I suffer with pale in comparison.
I don’t like my hair pulled – and they pulled out his beard….
I hate paper scratches…and they whipped him.
I hate being made fun of, and they played games with him…taunting him.
When I am treated badly, I can maintain my integrity for a while…a LITTLE while,
and yet…
Isaiah 53:6-7 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
6 We all went astray like sheep;
we all have turned to our own way;
and the Lord has punished Him
for[a] the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet He did not open His mouth.
Like a lamb led to the slaughter
and like a sheep silent before her shearers,
He did not open His mouth.
These very things will come up in some of the other posts…like him in the court room….
He told Peter that he could call down legions of angels….but that this had to be fulfilled.
I don’t have the power within me to stop others from making fun of me.
I don’t have the power within me to stop someone from traumatizing me(I didn’t as a child, for sure).
I don’t have the power to stop pain from occurring.
But Jesus did. And still he stood quietly, as a lamb led to the slaughter.
My life has not been perfect, and by the ledgers of right and wrong based on the old testament law, I don’t deserve any good thing…Deuteronomy 28. Still, I grumble when trials come my way.
Jesus did NOTHING wrong…and he stood meekly, taking this humiliation FOR ME.
My word for 2018 has been to be like Jesus.
I’m not liking that phrase in light of this study!
The fruit of the spirit is… LONG SUFFERING….(Galatians 5:22-23) another word for patience. I do not have a lot of fruit in this area!
Jesus knew what the outcome was going to be…and he chose to suffer long to see that process through.
I don’t see the future as Jesus does, but I know that HE holds the future…so, by His grace, I should be able to suffer long, knowing that Romans 8:28 – all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to HIS purposes.
I know that He is faithful to finish the work that He began in me! Phil 1:6
Jesus was NOT ashamed of the Gospel – and he paid the price to fulfill it.
This is Christianity – this is what it is to be a Christ follower. Am I willing to pay this cost?
My One Word 2018 – The End is Near – or The Time Is Short – hmmmm?
Yes, that’s what I got in January!
My One Word!
Then, it was refined to Be Like Jesus!
I’ve written a bit about both.
I also wrote about Jesus Knowing my frame….and how many spoons I have!
I created a video about being poured out – I think I need to find that, edited by Jim!
Last September, I wrote about my struggles with what was occurring at that time….since then
In October, we put Gabriel Down.
In November, we rejoiced with our children Faith and Steve in their new home, that included a room in which we couild stay without a hotel!
In December, we flew back to Ohio to share in Christmas with family.
Somewhere in January, I found out I had kidney cancer.
Somewhere in January, we found out that Jim’s fight with prostate cancer was not over.
In February, we discussed with various doctors about various cancer treatments…for both of us.
I have to have most or all of my kidney removed.
Jim needs another hifu, and we are looking at the lymphoma.
Jim has had to start a medication to be a stop gap for the prostate cancer…and we’ve had to fight with insurance for one of the drugs. (And we thought we had one of those golden insurance policies…how awful it must be for those that don’t have anything!!!!)
We need to lower our costs….and Jim’s focus is in lowering our credit card debt.
Then –
2/21 I get a text from our daughter “Do you want to be my neighbor?”
Jim jumps right over my maybe to a yes…because he’s seeing the end from the beginning…
2/27 – Faith and Steve walk the house…and Faith does a video call with me, and they share the google photos with us. It’s nowhere near as bad as the zillow photos!
3/2 – we have realtors over to this Florida house to check on the viability of selling.
we also check into a program called Open Door – the amount for which we need to sell this house is viable –
3/3 we jump on a plan to fly to Ohio to check out the house ourselves.
3/4 we meet the agent and the inspector, and we ‘fall in love’ with the house and the property.
Our 7 year old grandson, when asked if he could make sure that I got plenty of hugs and kisses if I moved in said ” Oh Mamaw, I’d do anything to get you to move up here!” MELT! The 4 year old offered ideas to make the house work for me! The son-in-law discussed the fences and my dear sweet daughter promised me baked goods!
I stayed up all night finding possible professionals to get quotes on work needed on the Thurber House.
3/5 we met with the agent one more time at the house, and let the boys go inside and see the place. Then, we flew home.
3/6 The open door offer comes in $1000 less than our mortgage payoff!!!
3/7 We worked up a bid for the Ohio house, based on comps and comparisons.
3/8-9 The seller came back with a $2000 increase(which was still $18k less than the asking price). we were so shocked it was ok’d so fast, that we didn’t even consider negotiating any more and said yes!
3/9 signed the papers for the Ohio house
One of the professionals from Home Advisor is working with us to come up with quotes for all the things needed to be done…Jim likes him! YAY!
Jim would need an apartment here, for work technicalities…and he was not able to find anything reasonable. One night, I was up, and found a bunch. He liked the website I’d looked at, and found a treehouse rental. Yes, they have one opening up, for $625 a month! No, it’s not in Clermont…but it is in the general area in which he was looking. It’s based in a resort…near Lake Marion, in a very secluded area. The ride to the treehouse condos is in cattle country mixed in with Orange groves…a very restful drive for Jim!
3/9 My friend and I drove out there to see the property and turn in some papers and money orders to hold the treehouse.
3/10 Jim and I drive to see the Treehouses
3/11 we signed the papers for the Florida House with Open Door
3/16 Jim signed the lease papers for the treehouse. The house that they have given him is close to the lake, and very secluded! Great restful place!
3/16 the major parts of the Open Door inspection were done…we think everything went well.
We had need of another car…because of the rental car location issues. Our Daughte rRachel happened to call Jim on the day he was headed down to Fort Lauderdale and said “could you check out a car for me? I’ll sell you mine for cost” The car was 10 minutes out of his way, and it was a day that he had time to do the test drive!
3/15 Rachel flew to Florida this past weekend to pick up her new car.
It appears that God’s plan is to eliminate the mortgage debt!
3/19 the Septic inspection.
Upcoming – Jim will be driving a truck to Ohio 3/22-24; flying to Austin to pick up the car from Rachel, driving to Dallas for SKO then driving our ‘new’ car home to Orlando area from SKO 3/29-4/1
Closing for Florida house is set for April 19th(if all things are agreed on from the OD inspections)
Closing for Ohio house is set for April 23rd.
We have stepped down from leading the small group, and the women’s group.
We are packing like crazy…and even have the house cleared of all things on the walls.
I have a peace that is totally incomprehensible(probably similar to Peace that passes understanding!) even in the midst of the stress, anxiety and panic attacks.
If there seems to be a flurry of activity in this blog, it’s because it’s been a flurry of activity. We have sought out friends and connections, especially those that might have a reason to NOT want us to leave, and laid out the very details as they have come up. The typical response is either
“This is a no brainer”
or
“What’s the question?”
Two additional God things:
  • The agent in Ohio had a partial nephrectomy just two years ago and knows an excellent urology team!
  • The doctor that handles my back pain had a cancellation for the first part of a procedure for my back…we can do the first part, the test, which will be over the course of two months…and I can come back for the results. If it works, then, he can do a procedure that will make me pain free for ONE YEAR!!
And if that’s not enough….
My Psych is fine with me meeting with him once a quarter.
My Therapist is fine with me once a month…and one computer visit.
I think my hemotologist will be like wise!
Jim does not have to change out his cancer treatment professionals, because he will have an apartment down here.
I can come down to Florida once a month to be with Jim…because he has an apartment…or to stay by the beach!
We have the car situation settled for Jim going to and from the airport in Pittsburgh!
And I will have all the grandbaby hugs and kisses I can handle…even the potential for those that live three hours away to come and stay for a weekend!
So, yes, the time was short….for our living here!
Yes, the end is near…. for our living here!
We still need to focus upon our walks with Christ, and being like Christ…
We still need to focus on numbering our days that we would apply our hearts to wisdom…
The days are evil…and short…and the Lord will return!
This house has been a blessing and gift from the Lord.  We thought we were going to be here for the rest of our lives.  God had other plans.  Lately, we feel like we are just holding on for the ride!
We just try to follow!
PRAISES UPDATE!
EDIT 3/19/2018 –
* Jim’s biopsy for the lymph nodes came back as B Cell follicular Lymphoma – only needs to be watched. No evidence of metastasized Prostate cancer!
* Open Door investigation came back with $700 repairs…a totally bogus claim against the carpet and pet odor…as confirmed by the many people that have come in, and a totally unrealistic claim to fix the damage to the ceiling that our repair guy charged $800 for and totally messed it up. Also, realistic maintenance repairs to the outside of the windows. The point…it cost us more to fix the ceiling(even if the guy did do a horrible job) than they have allowed for all three repairs. The difference between the check for this place and our mortgage payoff is about the cost of one mortgage payment!
Scripture
John 19:28-30 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
The Finished Work of Jesus
28 After this, when Jesus knew that everything was now accomplished that the Scripture might be fulfilled, He said, “I’m thirsty!” 29 A jar full of sour wine was sitting there; so they fixed a sponge full of sour wine on hyssop[a] and held it up to His mouth.
30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” Then bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
Devotion
Jesus was giving up his life, for us.
Jesus was suffering intensely, for us.
Jesus was dying, for us.
And he says “I Thirst”
I have been meditating upon these words, and I have found a blog that explains very nicely what I’d like to present.
Adam Hamilton’s Blog “I thirst”: More here than meets the eye.”
One that I was looking for was to what prophecy did this refer? Quoting from Adam Hamilton’s blog:
At the surface, Jesus’ words, “I thirst,” John tells us, lead to the fulfillment of Scripture. What Scripture did Jesus fulfill by making this statement? Most scholars think it is Psalm 69:21b: “For my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.” When he said he was thirsty and was offered wine vinegar, Jesus was pointing us back to this verse from Psalm 69. He was saying, “Look, what I’m doing now was written centuries ago. It is part of God’s plan that was set in place long before now.”
The others being his humanity – thirsting; His reference to the drinking his blood; his reference to HIMSELF drinking of the cup; and reference to the living water.
There is a comment on this blog that talks about some other symbolism in this event, written by anonymous. It gives some food for thought:
My friend, I’m sorry but I think you missed it. “as a sponge was dipped in wine vinegar, affixed to a stick and lifted up to Jesus.” That stick holds the key to the passage which John is talking about.
Numbers 19 is the laws for purification in which a Red Heifer (Jesus) is sacrificed outside the camp, then burned in a fire with cedar wood (the cross) scarlet yarn (the robe which was put on Jesus while they were mocking him) and hyssop (the very wood used to raise the wine to Jesus.) The ashes from that fire were mixed into water from a running water source (the hebrew for running water, moving water, and Living Water is the same). It was that water which was used to purify the parts of the tabernacle worship as well as to purify the people who were unclean from touching a dead thing, they would be washed on the third day and on the seventh day then at the beginning of the eighth or new day they would be clean and allowed back in the camp. This is all a picture of how Jesus sacrifice on the cross is for our purification.
When John says that Jesus was fulfilling Scripture it wasn’t a fulfillment of prophecy, an emphasis on His humanity, an expression of finishing his suffering, or that the Living Water had dried up, but it was actually a fulfillment of the Law.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” Matthew 5:17
Even with this comment, I believe that Adam does a wonderful job of speaking to those concepts of this very passage, therefore, I’m going to speak to OUR thirst!
Isaiah 55:1-3 King James Version (KJV)
55 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
When Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, he talks about a different kind of water…one that would never leave you thirsting again.
There is talk in the Bible about fresh water and that from cisterns – and that some will choose cistern water over fresh.
When Jesus talks to the disciples, He warns them of false sheep – lions that seek to devour…to test the spirits.
There is TRUE water, and there is FALSE water.
What are we to thirst after?
First – WHY???
BECAUSE water is so vital to our life.
USGS says that our bodies are approximately 60% water.
A medical article says that the body us up to 75% water, and talks about the symptoms of dehydration.
Years ago, I was struggling with my own issues with dehydration.
My electrolytes would get out of whack, and I could not function.
I was missing the signs of dehydration – I was so far PAST thirst.
Dehydration is deadly – both physically, and spiritually. I compared the two!
We are to remember Jesus’s sacrifice by eating his flesh(bread) and drinking his blood (wine) – we are to remember, so that we continue to desire HIM.
Then WHAT are we to thirst after?
We are given a promise, if we thirst after righteousness:
Matthew 5:6 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
6 Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed,
for they will be filled.
When Jesus speaks, even in a very seemingly simple phrase such as “I Thirst” – there is so much to be gathered from him. It was said of Elijah that not one word of his ever fell to the ground wasted. How much MORE the words of Jesus.
He was broken and spilled out for us…and as he was breathing his last words, he gave us a reminder…a proof text…and a promise…in one simple phrase – ‘I thirst’.
Broken and Spilled Out – Steve Green
Are we willing to be broken and spilled out?
Do we thirst to be filled with the living water by turning away from the worldly cisterns?
Do we remember daily the price with which we were purchased?
