2016 end of year thoughts

I am thankful to the Lord Jesus Christ for bringing me through this year.

The beginning of the year was not as bad as the beginning of 2015.

I spent from the end of March to the beginning of June in Youngstown, Ohio, to help our daughter with the birth of her third son.

I stayed in an apartment – and that enabled me to watch the other two boys.

with the help of my co-gramma, Kate Gibson, I planned and executed two parties – a Baby Shower, and a third birthday!
My BFF Susan Stephens came to help with the Shower:

Theodore Montgomery Gibson was born April 6, three days after the shower!

Oliver’s third Birthday was a success – with many cousins from around Ohio!

Sad part – my cat Purrl got outside on a wet, rainy day, and was killed.

Much of the time in Ohio was spent with the Gibson family, enjoying the boys, and of course, our daughter.
I missed the birthday party for Aubrey Jo, because i was sick. I did get to buy some dance outfits for her! And she did come to Oliver’s birthday, as did Brayden and Wyatt!

ADD FAMILY PHOTO

Sad Part – just as everyone was coming for Mother’s day, Gabriel started having ear issues, and was having difficulty standing up. We took him to a veternary ER. Within days, he could no longer hear – which seemed to be from the medicine.

Mother’s day – almost the whole family was together. Rachel flew in, Stephen came up with his son, Brayden, and we had a great time. It’s been a long time since i’ve had this much of a wonderful Mother’s day!

sad part – Meranda’s grandmother was on the last leg of her trip into eternity, therefore Meranda and Aubrey and Wyatt spent her last mother’s day with her. a week later, gramma was gone.

Gabriel was having difficuties understanding commands – which meant that he was in a questionable position as my service dog.

We came home, and Jim had planned a west coast trip in connection with RedHat Summit in San Francisco. We did a lighthouse tour from San Fran up to Seattle.
We could not take Gabriel – and we found an amazing lady to board him!
The really awesome gift was getting to see our daughter Anna in San Francisco!

  • In August, we found out that Jim’s PSA was rising rediculously fast – the cancer was back.
  • In September, we talked to the surgeon. And, I realized that Gabriel needed to be retired, and that I needed to travel with Jim to aide in the stress reduction of his travel. Therefore, I gave Gabriel up.
  • In October, we had a biopsy done. Gleason score of 7
  • In November, we were on a waiting list for the set up to repeat the HIFU procedure.Set up just before Thanksgiving.
  • In December, we had several procedures to handle Jim’s situation.
  • The end of the year – we traveled to Seattle to spend Christmas time with our daughter, Anna, and to relax for the end of the year.

My word for this year was Prepare – and I wrote several blogs about that word.
Moving to Ohio for three months really brought home the need for preparation.
Hearing that the cancer was back, and more aggressive – that really screamed the need to be prepared for anything.

i have been leaning on Psalm 23 these last few months. Things have been happening so fast, that I have not finished my devotions on Psalm 23!

That and the focus upon the trials of the original Christmas story. I have added painting to my trips with Jim in order to reduce my stress.

I sewed little bags for the ornaments – breaking out my sewing machine for the first time in years! actually, since the movers lost mine when they brought us down from Ohio to Texas in 2010!

Money has been tight, because the medical procedure is NOT covered by insurance, and we are still paying off the loan for the last procedure (Feb 2015). God has shown himself our shepherd – we shall not want! Jim’s job provided enough travel that most of our visit to Anna for Christmas is paid for by points! And, the things that we do here have been gifts from Anna! It’s been amazing to just rest, and let Anna take control! She has such good taste!

I have no idea what 2017 has in store.
A new president – which may enter in the events to allow Jesus Christ to return, and usher in the new Kingdom! If not – we still know that this world is not our home, we are just passing through.

Because of all the uncertainty, my focus for next year, that I don’t seem to get away from, is to number my days.

Psalm 90:12
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

I know I am supposed to finish the devotions on Psalm 23, I know I’m supposed to start up the Itty Bitty Bible Study again, and I know that I’m supposed to be painting.

I will be by Jim’s side as he fights this enemy.

I will try to live my life with Matthew 5, 6, & 7; 1 corinthians 13, and Galatians 5 as my examples.
I will try to remember to put on my armor – Ephesians 6, and to trust that the battle is the Lords – Psalm 91.

More than anything, this year, I want to live in the grace and mercy of the Father – so that the negative self doubt and self talk no longer keep me a spiritual invalid. I want to embody:
Philippians 4:13
13 I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me

If I hesitate, it is because I love someone I have placed in competition with Him, namely, myself.” –

Christmas Carol Considerations – Angels we have heard on High

Angels we have heard on high, sweetly singing ore the fields

“Angels We Have Heard on High” is a Christmas carol of French origin. The song commemorates the story of the birth of Jesus Christ found in the Gospel of Luke, in which shepherds outside Bethlehem encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising the newborn child.

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plain
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

The Angels came – to declare the birth of the Son of God.
This verse also refers to the mountains in reply…Jesus said that if he silenced his followers, that even the rocks would cry out! Luke 19:40

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be?
Which inspire your heavenly songs?
Gloria

There is new information of which I was made aware this year – the shepherds around Bethlehem were of the house of Levi. They were of the priestly lineage. No matter what, they understood that there was a coming KING from God, and that this angelic message was telling them that today was the day!

Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ, the Lord, the newborn King.
Gloria

Bethlehem – the city of David.
Knees bowing…Phillipians 2:10; Romans 14:11; Psalm 95:6

See Him in a manger laid,
Jesus, Lord of heaven and earth;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
With us sing our Savior’s birth.
Gloria

The King of Creation – lying in a manger
The Omnipotent God – dependent upon a mother and father
The Omniscient God – encased in frail humanity
The Eternal God – wrapped in finite human flesh
The Owner of all – being birthed in the humblest of places that his parents didn’t own.

Do we hear the angels today?
Do we rejoice that the King has come?
Do we bend our Knee to the King of Kings, no matter how He presents himself to us?
Let us sing the Praises of Our King!

Christmas Carol Considerations – Hark! the Herald Angels Sing!

Hark! the Herald Angels Sing!

Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’ angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem.”
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”

The Angels were sent as messengers….the key – God and sinners reconciled. This didn’t happen until Christ’s death and resurrection, but that is the point of Christmas – pointing to Easter!

Christ, by highest heav’n adored:
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of the favored one.
Veil’d in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail, th’incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Lets hear it in an upbeat and happy version!
https://youtu.be/L1_8l7eDqcw

Hail! the heav’n born Prince of peace!
Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”

May you hear the Angels sing – and join in singing…Glory to the Newborn King!

Christmas Carol Considerations – the First Noel

The First Noel

The First Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds
in fields as they lay;
In fields as they lay, keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

First, the Son of God came to the Jews – then to the gentiles.
In Matthew 15, Jesus answers a Cannanite woman that He was sent to the House of Israel.
Got Questions discusses whether Jesus came ONLY to the Jews.
The quick answer is NO. He came to the Jews FIRST.

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.

This is not a Biblical statement, but apparently the star shown bright enough for the magi to follow.

Carrie Underwood singing the first noel

And by the light of that same star
Three wise men came from country far;
To seek for a king was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went.

“to seek for a king…and to follow the star wherever it went.”
What a statement of how a Christian is to live their lives!
Matthew 4:19
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

This star drew nigh to the northwest,
O’er Bethlehem it took it rest,
And there it did both stop and stay
Right over the place where Jesus lay.

Bethlehem was key – the city of David. This is where the Israelites were promised to see their deliverer arise.

Then entered in those wise men three
Full reverently upon their knee,
and offered there in his presence
Their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense.

There is no biblical text that says THREE wise men – just three gifts.
And yet, this is a beautiful example of all men humbling themselves before Jesus.

1 peter 5:6
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

These wise men have been an example of seeking God with all their heart – raised up by becoming part of the Christmas story because of their dedication and humility.

Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord;
That hath made heaven and earth of naught,
And with his blood mankind hath bought

This verse is the gospel in a nutshell.
Beginning with Creation in Genesis 1!

Ephesians 1:7
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace

Because of this beautiful gift – we should sing praises to our Heavenly Lord!

Knowing Jesus has a list of verses about singing praises to God! Reading through these, there are so many reasons for one to Sing Praises!

Here’s my favorites:

This one has a very personal meaning:

Psalm 63:7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings

This passage reminds me WHY to praise!

Psalm 103:1-5
Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

May your New year be filled with the knowledge of the gifts God has given you!

Christmas Carols Considerations – O Holy Night

Oh Holy Night
The history of Oh Holy Night

The night of our dear saviours birth!

O holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine

The chorus is amazing…FALL ON YOUR KNEES! Why? Because CHRIST has been born!

Romans 14:11
It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.'”

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the wise men from Orient land
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend

The dichotomy of the King of Kings lying in a manger.
The creator of the World and all that is in it, growing in the womb of Mary.

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name

This is so true –

  • taught us to love one another! John 13:34

    1 John 4:7-12

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

  • Broke our chains – and set us free from whatever enslaved us! Psalm 107
  • He is the Prince of Peace – not of oppression. Isaiah 9:6

this has a few extra verses:

Christmas Carol Considerations – Silent Night

Silent Night

The history is simple – the beauty is timeless.

https://youtu.be/9T4WB2zfmps?list=PLMQpRrc0BZkHcs83AzEvm6J_stToxlU5x

Silent Night, Holy Night….
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, Mother and child.
Holy Infant so tender and mild.
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace

Verse one speaks of the virgin birthIsaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:23

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born

Verse Two speaks about the shepherds – watching their flocks. Luke 2:8-20
Angels came to them, sang to them, and they, the shepherds, were the first to go to greet the baby Jesus.

Silent night, holy night!
Son of God love’s pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

Verse Three speaks about Jesus coming as the Light of the World

.John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 1:4
In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

John 12:35-36
35 So Jesus told them, “For a little while longer, the Light will be among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
36 While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of light.”

1 John 1:5-7
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

This is the reason Jesus came to earth…to save us from our sin, and to reconcile us to God!

Christmas Carol Considerations – It came upon a Midnight Clear

It Came Upon a Midnight clear

The birth of Jesus was a miracle.
The timing of His birth was a miracle.
In fact, His lineage, His protection, His life and His death were all fulfillments of the prophecies.

It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold!
Peace on the earth, good will to men,
From heaven’s all gracious King!
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing.

Of course the Angels sang! They were seeing the plan unfold!

Still through the cloven skies they come
With peaceful wings unfurled
And still their heavenly music floats
O’er all the weary world;
Above its sad and lowly plains
They bend on hovering wing.
And ever o’er its Babel sounds
The blessed angels sing.

This verse refers to the joyous gift in the midst of a weary world in darkness.

Yet with the woes of sin and strife
The world hath suffered long;
Beneath the angel-strain have rolled
Two thousand years of wrong;
And man, at war with man, hears not
The love song which they bring:
O hush the noise, ye men of strife,
And hear the angels sing.

When I hear this verse, I think “Peace, Be still”
and “Be still and Know that I am God!”

For lo! the days are hastening on,
By prophet bards foretold,
When, with the ever-circling years,
Shall come the Age of Gold;
When peace shall over all the earth
Its ancient splendors fling,
And all the world give back the song
Which now the angels sing.

This is a reference to Christ’s return – as the reigning King.

Mark 13:32-35
32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
33 Be on guard! Be alert[e]! You do not know when that time will come.
34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.
36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Acts 1:11
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

My faith says this is a historical event.
There is plenty of historical evidence of the life of Christ.
It takes FAITH to believe in the fulfillment of prophecy, and in Jesus as your Lord and savior.
I believe!

My faith says that Christ is coming again – and I am to be ready.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Carols Considerations – Gabriels Message

GABRIEL’S MESSAGE

Alternate Titles:
The Angel Gabriel
The Angel Gabriel From Heaven Came

1. The angel Gabriel from heaven came
His wings as drifted snow his eyes as flame
“All hail” said he “thou lowly maiden Mary,
Most highly favored lady,” Gloria!

2. “For know a blessed mother thou shalt be,
All generations laud and honor thee,
Thy Son shall be Emanuel, by seers foretold
Most highly favored lady,” Gloria!

3. Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head
“To me be as it pleaseth God,” she said,
“My soul shall laud and magnify his holy name.”
Most highly favored lady. Gloria!

4. Of her, Emanuel, the Christ was born
In Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn
And Christian folk throughout the world will ever say:1
“Most highly favored lady,” Gloria!

The beginning of Christmas starts with Gabriel visiting Mary.
On Advent 19, I shared some of my thoughts about Mary.

This girl, engaged to be married, in a very patriarchal society, gets a visit from an angel.
Gabriel, no less!
Not only is she told SHE will conceive without a man involved to give birth to God’s own son, she also hears that her barren cousin is going to have a baby in her old age.

The timing…Mary had to be old enough to carry a baby, and Elizabeth had to be able to carry a baby, because they were to be contemporaries. God’s plans are NOT thwarted by our timing! With God, nothing is impossible!

So, knowing that this puts her life in danger, Mary says this:

38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

When she meets with Elizabeth, she says:
Mary’s Song

Luke 1:46-55
46 And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”

I spend much time doubting.
Nothing in my life is as monumental as Elizabeth getting pregnant, or Mary carrying the son of God.
But, part of this story is a very precious promise:

Luke 1:37
For nothing will be impossible with God.

A contemporary song is Breathe of Heaven, sung by Amy Grant.

This is a very unique part of the Christmas story. I draw much hope from the story of Mary.

Ps 63:7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.

“The Lord does not give me rules, but He makes His standard very clear.
If my relationship to Him is that of love, I will do what He says without hesitation.
If I hesitate, it is because I love someone I have placed in competition with Him, namely, myself.” –

Christmas Carols Considerations – O come, O come, Emmanuel

O Come O Come Emmanuel – and ransom captive Israel.
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the son of God appear.

This is the prayer for the savior to come.
The beauty of this carol is that it speaks to various aspects of Christ.

By Paul Baloche

Historically, In the liturgical churches, it was sung, each verse, for the last seven days of Advent. The seven O Antiphons were sung at vespers.

The importance of the “O Antiphons” is twofold. First, each one is a title for the Messiah. Secondly, each one refers to the prophecy of Isaiah of the coming of the Messiah. The Latin antiphons are from the Breviarium Romanum. The English versions, which are not always literal translations of the Latin, are from the Church of England’s Common Worship liturgy.

This first version of the hymn includes five verses, corresponding to five of the seven standard O Antiphons, in the following order:
“Veni, veni Emmanuel!” = “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”
“Veni, O Jesse Virgula” = “O Come, Thou Rod of Jesse”
“Veni, veni, O Oriens” = “O come, Thou Dayspring, from on High”
“Veni, clavis Davidica” = “O come, Thou Key of David, come”
“Veni, veni, Adonai”[3] = “O come, Adonai, Lord of might”

Sung by Sovereign Grace

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,

That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny ;

From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory o’er the grave.
Rejoice ! Rejoice ! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Dayspring, from on high,
And cheer us by Thy drawing nigh;

Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice ! Rejoice ! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come
And open wide our heav’nly home ;

Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice ! Rejoice ! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Adonai, Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai’s height,

In ancient times didst give the law
In cloud and majesty and awe.
Rejoice ! Rejoice ! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Sung by Barlow Girl

Additional two verses, which I have not heard before, completes the 7 O Antiphons:

Additional verses trans. H. S. Coffin (1916)
O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
And order all things, far and nigh;

To us the path of knowledge show,
And cause us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Desire of nations, bind
All peoples in one heart and mind;

Bid envy, strife and quarrels cease;
Fill the whole world with heaven’s peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

This carol teaches about the aspects of Christ’s position and refers to his different names.

Sung By Kari Jobe

The hymn is based around the chapters in Isaiah 7 and 8, where God is promising protection from real life enemies to Isreal. The Wikipedea page explains the two views of Immanuel. One is the original Hebrew view, in Isaiah. The other is the Christian view which refers to the view in Isaiah as a prophecy as well as a promise.

By Pentatonix

For Christmas, I’m referencing Matthew 1:22-23

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”[a] (which means “God with us”).

The reference within this verse is Isaiah 7 & 8

To our family, this is the first Christmas carol we sing every year,
For us, it starts the holiday – the HOLY season – by placing the focus right where we want it.
Realizing that Jesus Christ is OUR Emmanuel – OUR God with US – and that, that is the best gift of Christmas!

Advent Day 27 – What to do while we wait

Advent Day 27
If doing the Advent Log, light candles 1-27

Even though Jesus has come, died, and rose again, we are waiting.
Again.
We are waiting for His return.

What can we do while we wait?

Acts 2:42-47
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching
and to fellowship,
to the breaking of bread
and to prayer.
43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.
44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.
45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.
46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.
They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

We can focus on some of the ways that Jesus comes to us!

Jesus comes to us by His Spirit
When Jesus was saying goodbye to His disciples, He told them that he would not leave them comforless, but send the Spirit that would be with them.

John 14:15-17
15 “If you love me, keep my commands.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you.

It is the sight of the dove coming down upon Jesus at His baptism that gives us the symbol of the dove for Christmas. It is the Symbol of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus comes to us in His Word – teaching
The Apostle John called Jesus the Word of God.
And Jesus said in Mark 13:31

31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

By reading, meditating and memorizing God’s word, Jesus comes to us, and dwells in our hearts with knowledge.
Psalms 119 says that we hide his word in our hearts that we might not sin against him.
John 14:23 says that If a man loves me(Jesus), he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our home with him.

God’s word helps us to know Jesus better, and to love him more, and in turn, he comes to dwell within us.

Jesus comes to us in People – fellowship
That would be by fellowship with other believers.
1 Corinthians says that we are the body of Christ.
It also says that we are the temple of the Holy Ghost.
and the best key of fellowship – Where two or more are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them. Matthew 18:20

We are to be Jesus to each other!

These are just a few of the ways that the first century church remembered Jesus daily, and reminded each other that Jesus was still in our midst. We were meant to live and breath in Jesus.
