Mindful Meditating

  1. choose a verse,
  2.  set a timer for 5 minutes, or whatever works for you.
  3.  example: Matt 21:9
  4. repeat to yourself, and at each word, enunciate the next word in the sentence starting with the first word…

example:

  • Hosanna to the Son of David!
He who comes in the name
of the Lord is the blessed One![b]
    Hosanna in the highest heaven!
  • HOSANNA to the Son of David!
  • Hosanna TO the Son of David!
  • Hosanna to THE Son of David!
  • Hosanna to the SON of David!

…and so on.  This will cause you to look at the verse more intently, and may have you memorize it before your five minutes are done.

        • 12 So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ The man was speechless.
        • I was taught that when you invited people to the wedding feast, you provided a garment – so this man didn’t bother to wear it.  The analogy is that Christ provides us with a white robe to wear to the marriage supper of the Lamb where we are the bride.
      • Mt 22:13 We must be fulfilling the requirements of Christianity, follower of Christ, or we will be cast out.
        • 13 “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him up hand and foot,[c] and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

        • seven brothers and same wife
      • Jesus rebukes them
        • 29 Jesus answered them, “You are deceived, because you don’t know the Scriptures or the power of God.

      • God of the Living
        • 31 Now concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven’t you read what was spoken to you by God: 32 I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?[j] He[k] is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
    • Mt 22:34- 40 Another test by the Pharisees
      • 35 And one of them, an expert in the law, asked a question to test Him: 36 “Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?”[l]

        • 37 He said to him, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.[m]

      • His answer was clear enough to them that they no longer asked Him any questions.
        •  46 No one was able to answer Him at all,[t] and from that day no one dared to question Him anymore.

  1. What does the wedding garment represent?
    1. This page had great answers to this question! I got lost in it!
  2. Does the casting out of the person that is in the wedding room, but not wearing clean clothes mean that there can be those that profess Christ, but can still be cast out?
    1. Hebrews 10:26-31
    2. Number 15:30
    3. Hebrews 6:4-6

  • Matthew 19
    • Mt 19:1-12 Divorce and Remarriage
      • I’m just going to post what God says – if you have other opinions, or go with other understandings, you have grace to follow Christ according to the knowledge that He provides for YOU!
      • Pharisees trying to trick him
        • Some Pharisees approached Him to test Him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?”
      • something about the genders and creation that makes the joining important
        • “Haven’t you read,” He replied, “that He who created[a] them in the beginning made them male and female,”
        • and He also said:
          • For this reason a man will leave
            his father and mother
and be joined to his wife,
and the two will become one flesh?[c]
        • So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not separate.”
        • I don’t understand how this goes with Jesus saying that in the new kingdom there is no giving or taking in marriage.
          • Matt 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like angels in heaven.
        • I have not studied this except as to how it applied to me, and this verse kept Jim and I married through the tough times.
      • Hard hearts – what does this mean about the laws???
        • He told them, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of the hardness of your hearts. But it was not like that from the beginning.
          • I’m trying not to get too deep here…but Jesus is in Deep Water!
      • The disciples say
        • 10 His disciples said to Him, “If the relationship of a man with his wife is like this, it’s better not to marry!”
      • Jesus says:
        • 11 But He told them, “Not everyone can accept this saying, but only those it has been given to. 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb, there are eunuchs who were made by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves that way because of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.”
        • For more see 1Corinthians 7:1-16
    • Mt 19:13-15 Bring the Little Children
      • 14 Then Jesus said, “Leave the children alone, and don’t try to keep them from coming to Me, because the kingdom of heaven is made up of people like this.”
        • Did the Disciples forget about who was the greatest in Heaven?
    • Mt 19:16-22  What must I do to have eternal life?
      • 16 Just then someone came up and asked Him, “Teacher, what good must I do to have eternal life?”
      • Keep the Commandments
      • 18 “Which ones?” he asked Him.
      • Jesus summarizes the whole OT set of laws
        • Do not murder;
        • do not commit adultery;
        • do not steal;
        • do not bear false witness;
        • honor your father and your mother;
        • and love your neighbor as yourself.
          • Other than the Loving God part – these are the ones Jesus’s Father wrote on the Mountain! Ex 20:1-17
      • 20 “I have kept all these,”[i] the young man told Him. “What do I still lack?”
      • KICKER FROM JESUS
        • 21 “If you want to be perfect,”[j] Jesus said to him, “go, sell your belongings and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
      • 22 When the young man heard that command, he went away grieving, because he had many possessions.
        • Was his possessions really what Jesus was getting at?
    • Mt 19:23-24
      • 23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “I assure you: It will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven! 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
        • WHY????
    • Mt 19:25
      • 25 When the disciples heard this, they were utterly astonished and asked, “Then who can be saved?”

      • 26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

        • Matt 6:21
          • For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
        • Matt 6:24
          • “No one can be a slave of two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot be slaves of God and of money.
        • Mt 6:21-34
          • 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
          • 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
          • 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
        • Matt 7 7:7-12
          • “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

      • 1-9 Reprimanding the Pharisees

        • “‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
          They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’[c]
      • 10-20what washing hands was a foreshadowing of:
        • 10 Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”
        • 18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”
    • Mt 15:21-28  The Faith of the Canaanite Woman – how to press in for answers
      • Came to Jesus – request #1
        • 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”
      • Ignored
        • 23 Jesus did not answer a word.
        • So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
        • 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
      • Request #2
        • 25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.
      • Rebuked – potentially a denial
        • 26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
      • Request/Response #3
        • 27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
      • Rewarded for persistent Faith
        • 28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.
    • Mt 15:29-31 Jesus Healing multitudes
      • 31 The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.
    • Mt 15:32 – 38 Feeding the Four Thousand
      • Jesus’ practical compassion
        • 32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”
      • disciples forget previous miracles
        • 33 His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”

        • “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”
      • Prayer of Thanksgiving
        • 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people.
      • How many ate?
        • They all ate and were satisfied.
        • 38 The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children.
      • Exceedingly Abundantly above what you ask or think:
        • Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
        • NO WASTE – LEFTOVERS!
    • Mt 15:39 – Moving on to the next place
        • 39 After Jesus had sent the crowd away, he got into the boat and went to the vicinity of Magadan.
    • Here is an excellent comparison between  the feeding of the five thousand and the feeding of the four thousand.

Passage
Matthew Chapter Eleven

It doesn’t matter which version you choose. It can be digital or paper. You can use one of those fancy coloring bibles and do a page or coloring along with the passage.

I will mostly do Holman Christian Standard Bible because of their copyright freedoms.

  • Matthew 11
      • Mt 11:1-6 John the Baptist’s questions
        • Jesus replied to them, “Go and report to John what you hear and see: the blind see, the lame walk, those with skin diseases are healed,[a] the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news. And if anyone is not offended because of Me, he is blessed.”
      • Mt 11:7-15  Who was John the Baptist?
        • Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You;[b]
he will prepare Your way before You.
        • 15 Anyone who has ears[f] should listen!
      • Mt 11:16-19 What’s Up?
        • 18 For John did not come eating or drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated[h] by her deeds.”[i]
      • Mt 11:20- 24 Towns that didn’t believe
        • 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes long ago!
        • 24 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
      • Mt 11:25-27 Who knows the Father? Who knows the Son?
      • 27 All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows[l] the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son desires[m] to reveal Him
      • Mt 11:28-30
      • https://images.knowing-jesus.com/Matthew/11

28 “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

    Mindful Meditating

  1. choose a verse,
  2.  set a timer for 5 minutes, or whatever works for you.
  3.  example: Matt 11:28
  4. repeat to yourself, and at each word, enunciate the next word in the sentence starting with the first word…

example:

  • 28 “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
  • COME to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
  • Come TO Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
  • Come to ME, all of you who are weary and burdened , and I will give you rest

…and so on.  This will cause you to look at the verse more intently, and may have you memorize it before your five minutes are done.

Passage
Matthew Chapter Seven

It doesn’t matter which version you choose. It can be digital or paper. You can use one of those fancy coloring bibles and do a page or coloring along with the passage.

I will mostly do Holman Christian Standard Bible because of their copyright freedoms.

  • Matthew 7
    • Mt 7:1 don’t judge
      •  “Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged. For with the judgment you use,[a] you will be judged, and with the measure you use,[b] it will be measured to you.
        • John 7:24
          • 24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
      • We have to make judgements. Proverbs is full of judgements. This is talking about judging without checking out your own heart first. Harsh judging just to put someone down. Judging to lift yourself up. Judging that doesn’t need to be done.
        • Luke 6:37, Luke 6:41, Romans 2:1, Romans 14:10, Romans 14:13,
        • Determine the difference between God’s hand and the enemy’s hand –
          • Ephesians 6:12
            • 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
        • Matthew 10:16 Christ did give a warning to watch for those without good intentions.
          • “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues.
      • When in doubt, don’t. Because we can trust God to take care of us.
        • Romans 12:18- 20 Our response to perceived evil:
          • 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[d] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[e]
    • Mt 7:2-6 Hypocrites and Pigs
    • Mt 7:7-12 Ask, Seek, Knock, give as you would be given
      • What man among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
      • 12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them—this is the Law and the Prophets.[h]
    • Mt 7:13-14 Where to Enter
      • 13 Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. 14 How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.
    • Mt 7:15-20
      • 20 So you’ll recognize them by their fruit.
    • Mt 7:21-23 To be known
      • 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven.
      • 23 Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers![i][j]
    • Mt 7:24-27 Build your house on THE Rock
      • 25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.
    • Mt 7:28-29
    • 28 When Jesus had finished this sermon,[k] the crowds were astonished at His teaching, 29 because He was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like their scribes.

Mindful Meditating

  1. choose a verse,
  2.  set a timer for 5 minutes, or whatever works for you.
  3.  example: Matt 7:13

  • 13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it.
  • ENTER through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction
  • Enter THROUGH the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction.
  • Enter through THE narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction.

…and so on.  This will cause you to look at the verse more intently, and may have you memorize it before your five minutes are done.

Quick Questions – if  you have time, or to think about over the course of the day, and jot down thoughts later.

  1. Do you find yourself judging in a critical way? What do you do then?
    1. your answer
  2. Does the log scripture go along with the judge scripture?
    1. Why or why not? if no, what does it say to us?
  3. Is there anything that you need to Ask, Seek, and Knock about?  What does this mean?
    1. GotQuestions handles this very well, though I believe that we can apply this to any need.
  4. Do you understand the narrow path and wide path?
    1. GotQuestions does well in explaining this as well.
