More discussion about these stories in Mindfully Meditating in Matthew 21

A good place to see the four gospels compared is from Synoptic Gospel Parallels.

Mindful Meditating

  1. choose a verse,
  2.  set a timer for 5 minutes, or whatever works for you.
  3.  example: Mark 11:24
  4. repeat to yourself, and at each word, enunciate the next word in the sentence starting with the first word…

example:

  • Mk 1124 Therefore I tell you, all the things you pray and ask for—believe that you have received[e] them, and you will have them.
  • THEREFORE I tell you, all the things you pray and ask for – believe that you have received them and you will have them.
  • Therefore I tell you, all the things you pray and ask for – believe that you have received them, and you will have them.
  • Therefore I TELL you, all the things you pray and ask for – believe that you have received them, and you will have them.

and so on.  This will cause you to look at the verse more intently, and may have you memorize it before your five minutes are done.

Quick Questions – if  you have time, or to think about over the course of the day, and jot down thoughts later.  Some thoughts to dig deeper.

  1. Why did people put branches and stuff on the path before Jesus as he entered Jerusalem?
    1.  GotQuestions talks about the significance of the triumphal entry.
  2. What is the point about cursing the fig tree?
    1. The Gospel Coalition has a great explanation about what we can learn from the fig tree.

Wisdom and Praise Collection

Psalm 119, Proverb 31

Psalm 119 is a poem focusing on the statutes/c0mmands/laws of the Lord written  in sections that start with the Hebrew alphabet.

Each section seems to have a theme, at least in my opnion.

Proverb 31 comes in 2 sections,

The first section is about how a King, royalty, child of the King should behave.  The second is an alphabetical poem about the the Original Wonder Woman – A virtuous woman.  It’s an ideal, but aiming for ideals can make us a better person, but to me, this is also about the empowerment and authority that a woman had in a household.

Psalm 27, 57, 87, 117, 147 and Proverb 27

Today’s readings have a lot of songs in them that I know from years ago.  I used these scripture songs to memorize scriptures and these became very special scriptures to my heart and to my walk with Jesus.  Even the Psalms about enemies brings a joy and peace to my heart that God is with me through all storms.  There is such a comfort in verses that just remind us about Who God is.

Proverbs has some useful bits as usual.

Let’s dig in.

  • Psalm 27 – Praise!
    • Ps 27:1-2KJV  a song of my memory
      • The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
      • When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
    • Ps 27:3 Confidence, no fear
      • Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
    • Ps 27:4KJV  a song of my memory
      • One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.
    • Ps 27:5 Protection
      • For He will conceal me in His shelter
        in the day of adversity;
        He will hide me under the cover of His tent;
He will set me high on a rock.

    • Ps 27:6 Response
      • Then my head will be high
        above my enemies around me;
I will offer sacrifices in His tent with shouts of joy.
I will sing and make music to the Lord.

        • Ps 50:15, Psalm 3:3,
        • Psalm 28:7
          • The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart rejoices, and I praise Him with my song.
    • Ps 27:11  prayer to guide me
      • Because of my adversaries,
        show me Your way, Lord,
and lead me on a level path.

        • Psalm 5:8
          • LORD, lead me in Your righteousness because of my adversaries; make Your way straight before me.
        • Psalm 25:4
          • Make Your ways known to me, LORD; teach me Your paths.
        • Psalm 86:11

Ps 63:7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.

“The Lord does not give me rules, but He makes His standard very clear.
If my relationship to Him is that of love, I will do what He says without hesitation.
If I hesitate, it is because I love someone I have placed in competition with Him, namely, myself.” –
