2023/2025 for Day 1, January 1

Hey, January is going to be easy to label the day of the year for the first 100 days.

Here is the whole Collection

One of the things that I am trying to do to keep me accountable and to have others join me is a live video each day at The WildBerry Patch facebook page. We are doing 5 psalms and 1 proverb each day for a month. Trying to build a habit. I’m also trying to write something for each of the firsts 100 days.

Here’s Day 2

For Copyright reasons, I use – Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2009 by Holman Bible Publishers, Nashville Tennessee. Today was Psalm 1, 31, 61, 91, 121 and Prov 1.

As I read Psalm 1, I am reminded of a song we used to sing many years ago.  We sang the KJV version.

Psalm 1

  • 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scronful.
  • 2. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law doth he meditate day and night.
  • 3. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

This explains to me a very simple way of making God happy, and dwelling in His blessing. The rest of the Psalm talks about the consequences of NOT following the previous practices. Psalm 1 ends with a summary.

6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Psalm 31 As I read Psalm 31, There is a cry for refuge. Based on Psalm 1, and the relationship with the Lord, we can reach out to Him in times of trouble.

Psalm 31:1-5

1 Lord, I seek refuge in You; let me never be disgraced. Save me by Your righteousness.

2 Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mountain fortress to save me.

3 For You are my rock and my fortress; You lead and guide me because of Your name.

4 You will free me from the net that is secretly set for me, for You are my refuge.

5 Into Your hand I entrust my spirit; You redeem[a] me, Lord, God of truth.

  • Refuge
  • Save
  • Rescue
  •

and the verse 5 – Into your hand I entrust my spirit – this is what Jesus said as He bowed His head and died. If Jesus felt this was a Psalm worth holding onto, I think we can, too.

This Psalm is for anyone with Loss. Verse 7 is a confession of faith

I will rejoice and be glad in Your faithful love because You have seen my affliction. You have known the troubles of my life

Verse 9 is a plea – a prayer

Be gracious to me, Lord, because I am in distress; my eyes are worn out from angry sorrow— my whole being[c] as well.

If you are dealing with any loss – person, place or thing – read this Psalm and make it yours. Within it are all the points of prayer – including confession of sin in verse 10. Feeling like you are attacked from every side? Verses 11-13 Psalm 31 verses 14-24 completes the worship with declaring victory. The end is verses 23-24

23 Love the Lord, all His faithful ones. The Lord protects the loyal, but fully repays the arrogant.

24 Be strong[i] and courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord.

Psalm 61 is much shorter. This seems to go with Psalm 31, but a more focused prayer for help, and declaration of victory when your heart is troubled. An easy one to memorize for times of trouble. Verses 1-4 are even a song in King James’ version.

1 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.

2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

Song – Psalm 61:1-4 hear my Cry Oh Lord by Esther Mui by Verse 8 states our responsibility –

8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

Psalm 91 – the Psalm for Protection and Shelter. This one is even more detailed of a prayer and confession of faith than Psalm 61. It also is a great Psalm if you are going through the season of life that Psalm 31 discusses. The well known first two verses say so much:

1 The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say[a] to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

This is another great passage to memorize for times of distress, discomfort, or loss. The whole psalm is great for comfort – culminating in this summary of God’s statement:

14 Because he is lovingly devoted to Me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows My name.

15 When he calls out to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor.

16 I will satisfy him with a long life and show him My salvation.

This summary hearkens back to Psalm 1.

Psalm 121 goes hand in hand with all of the psalms we have looked at today.

1 I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from?

2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber.

4 Indeed, the Protector of Israel does not slumber or sleep.

This whole psalm is a profession, or confession or declaration of God’s commitment to us to protect us as His children.

Now we take a quick look at Proverb 1. Proverb 1 starts with the reason for writing Proverbs. This helps with how to read it.

1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

2 For learning what wisdom and discipline are; for understanding insightful sayings;

3 for receiving wise instruction in righteousness, justice, and integrity;

4 for teaching shrewdness to the inexperienced,[a] knowledge and discretion to a young man—

5 a wise man will listen and increase his learning, and a discerning man will obtain guidance—

6 for understanding a proverb or a parable,[b] the words of the wise, and their riddles.

Proverb 1:7 is a clear statement to us:

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Proverb 1:8-19 gives us instruction on choosing wise counsel. Proverb 1:20-33 tells us that Wisdom is calling to us, and has a promise for us. Watch in Proverbs how Wisdom sounds very much like the working of the Holy Spirit. The promise of proverb 1, via Wisdom is verse 33

But whoever listens to me will live securely and be free from the fear of danger.”

Psalms 11, 41, 71, 101, 131 and Proverb 11

Today’s readings  have some Bible Psychology to share.

Today we read about God being our refuge and strength(11 & 71), a prayer for the sick(41) and we can learn about the attitude when we go through trials of all sorts. Psalm 101 gives us an idea that setting boundaries was a thing even in David’s day. Psalm 131 talks about being still.

Proverbs gives us many nugget gifts on the way we can live for better living.

  • Psalm 11 – God is our Refuge and Strength
    • Ps 11:1 I have taken refuge in the Lord.
How can you say to me,
“Escape to the mountain like a bird![a]

      • Ps 56:3 Go To When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.
      • Ps 64:10 ties in with righteous – The righteous one rejoices in the LORD and takes refuge in Him; all those who are upright in heart will offer praise.
      • Ps 141:8 (KJV) But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.
    • God is our refuge by Maranatha Christian Church – another Psalm but beautiful.
    • Ps 11:3 The foundations
      • Ps 127:1 A Solomonic song of ascents. Unless the LORD builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; unless the LORD watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain.

Thanks for joining me in this journey,

M. Christine Wildman“The Lord does not give me rules, but He makes His standard very clear.
If my relationship to Him is that of love, I will do what He says without hesitation.
